(straight)

Mostly used for simple melodies, but also used in blues or country. In 4 blow you will find the root note.

(cross)

The most common way to play blues/rock/pop or country. Drawing in channel 2 is the root note.

(double cross)

Very well suited for pieces in minor. In channel 1 draw is the root.

(minor-relative of the harmonica key)

Well suited for pieces in minor. In channel 3 draw whole tone bending is the root note.

(minor-relative of the cross-position)

Very suitable for pieces in minor. In channel 2 blowing is the root note.


 

If the song is in the key of then take a harmonica in the key of for playing in the 2nd position, or a harmonica in the key of , for playing in 4th position.

For playing in forth position you take a harmonica in the key of and in 5th position on a  harmonica.
