The big harmonica book (in German) with sound examples via QR code, playing techniques, exercises and 100 songs for diatonic harmonica.

The big harmonica book explains playing techniques and 100 songs for diatonic harmonica (available in German language only).

It is a combination of instruction and songbook, because the presented playing techniques are not only explained, but demonstrated and made comprehensible by means of concrete song passages.

Described are, among other things, tonguing, bending, overblows, trills, wah-wah effects, position playing. The book is aimed at beginners and advanced players alike.

Because the harmonica school contains songs of different levels of difficulty: easy, medium and high. All titles are written in musical notation and additionally in so-called harp tablature with numbers, so that even players without knowledge of music can cope very well. Stylistically, the songbook part offers a wide variety: blues, bluegrass, American folk, country, Irish music, folk music to evergreens, and much more.

You can find a list of all titles and sound samples in the tips section above!

All you need for studying and practicing is a blues harp in C major. That's because all 100 tracks in the songbook are recorded with a blues harmonica  in C major and guitar accompaniment. With the mp3s (no audio CD, but a QR code per sound example, which leads to the respective sound example) one can hear all pieces first in the guitar harmonica version and then play and practice with the guitar accompaniment version of the title.

The book uses numerous examples to teach how to play in other major and even minor keys on a C harmonica. It also explains and demonstrates how to play in the most important five positions of the harmonica. Some songs are presented for C major harmonica in 5 different keys, this means you can learn it in five different playing positions.

The book explains why it is useful to play certain songs in a different key than the harmonica itself is tuned in.

In summary: Learning to play the blues harp, or Richter harmonica, is demonstrated not only theoretically but quite practically with a variety of song examples and instrumentals to play along with.
