It explains playing techniques and includes 100 songs for the diatonic harmonica. It is a combination of an instructional guide and a songbook, as the playing techniques presented are not only explained but also demonstrated using specific song passages, making them easy to follow.
Among other things, it covers tongue-slapping, bending, overblows, trills, and wah-wah effects, as well as position playing. The book is aimed at beginners and advanced players alike.
This is because the harmonica method book includes songs of varying difficulty levels (easy, medium, and advanced). All songs are notated in standard musical notation and also in harmonica tablature using numbers, so even players without any knowledge of music notation can easily follow along. Stylistically, the method and songbook offers a wide variety: blues, bluegrass, American folk, country, Irish music, folk music, and evergreens.
All you need for studying and practicing is a Richter-tuned harmonica in C major. All 100 songs in the songbook were recorded using a C major blues harp with guitar accompaniment. With the MP3s (there is no audio CD; instead, there is a QR code for each audio sample that links to the corresponding sample), you can first listen to all the pieces in the guitar-harmonica version and then play along and practice with the guitar accompaniment version of each song.
