What is the secret behind the full and big sound of an octave harmonica?

Due to two reeds tuned slightly different from each other and working at once the typical beating sound of a Tremolo harmonica is produced (Wiener tuning - which reminds on of a Styrian accordion).

Here you can find out about the exact differences of >all of our octave models!

CLUB STEEL or CONCERTO STEEL - what are the differences between the two octave models?

Traditions are meant to be lived - whether it's traditional folk music in the pub or a cozy evening in front of the fireplace - a harmonica can't be missing.

The CLUB STEEL and the CONCERTO STEEL are both equipped with SEYDEL's proven stainless steel reeds, which are known for their good assertiveness, durability and tuning stability. Especially the tuning stability is very important for the "stable" octave sound. Both tremolo models have a comb with double row mouth side and both are suitable for melody playing and traditional folk music.
Here we explain the differences between the two models in detail:

The CLUB STEEL is a high-quality octave harmonica in a traditional, ergonomically-curved shape, which also has - thanks to the 40 built-in stainless steel reeds - a particularly full octave sound with a great presence. The CLUB STEEL is suitable for melody playing with or without reed accompaniment in folk music.

The tone assignment of the first four holes corresponds to the Richter accompaniment octave (starting with an E), the following two full octaves are laid out in the so-called solo tuning. Thus, the CLUB STEEL's note layout combines the advantages of the two most popular tunings:

>the CONCERTO STEEL Star 6 is available with six instruments for chordal accompaniment

With the Richter-tuned CONCERTO STEEL  melody and chord playing can be combined easily: Played with the so-called reed-stroke technique, both work absolutely simultaneously. The CONCERTO STEEL has a very full, powerful octave sound. One draw note and one blow note each are arranged horizontally in an oblong hole.

The higher tuned notes are in the upper hole row, the one octave lower tuned notes are in the lower hole row. The tonal range corresponds to that of blues harmonicas, tone response and feel are also very similar.

As with 10-hole blues harmonicas, the "accompaniment register", also called the Richter chord, is located on the left side of the instrument. The "tonic" (c-e-g - blow) and the "dominant seventh chord" (g-b-d-f - draw) are available. From channels 4/4 to 8/8 the "melody section" follows with the full major scale (extended upwards).
