The SESSION Steel Major Cross for Irish Folk and fast melodies - sounds stronger, lives longer.
The Major Cross tuning, developed by SEYDEL endorser Tony Eyers, allows players to play the major scale in the second position (also known as the cross position) without using the bending technique. Although many players frequently play in the second position, problems often arise with traditional folk pieces because, in the Richter tuning, players must master bending and overblow techniques to reach all the notes of the major scale.
The Major Cross Tuning solves this problem. Since no bending or overblow notes are required, this tuning makes it much easier to play fast runs, such as those found in many traditional fiddle pieces.
Play blazing fast Irish folk melodies! The instrument was developed specifically for Irish music and bluegrass. However, the Major Cross tuning is also popular in Irish folk, for Scottish reels and jigs, in country music, and for all kinds of flute and fiddle tunes.
